Teacher registration changes made in order to recognise challenges posed by pandemic

by Freya Lucas

September 01, 2021

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) has made changes to the way in which registered teachers and early childhood teachers (ECTs) are required to complete annual registration tasks in response to the challenges posed to the broader education community by COVID-19.

“During the past 18 months, we have witnessed Victorian teachers and early childhood teachers responding with incredible professionalism and resilience to meet the challenge presented by COVID-19,” the Institute said.

“Now, in Victoria’s sixth lockdown, we again applaud your commitment and passion to support your community and ensure Victoria’s children and young people receive the best education outcomes.”

Teachers, including early childhood teachers, must complete annual registration tasks by 30 September 2021 to maintain their registration, however VIT understands that the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) may have an impact on some teachers’ ability to fulfil their annual registration requirements and have made changes to assist them to maintain their registration.

A range of information tools and resources are available to support teachers with the process, including frequently asked questions and video resources.

How to complete annual registration tasks

The following information outlines the steps involved in completing the annual registration tasks, and has been prepared by VIT:

  1. To complete your annual registration tasks, log in to your MyVIT account. Your username is the email address listed on VIT’s system (and is provided in your email and paper invoice notification).

  2. You can reset your password by clicking on ‘Forgot your password?’ Your username is the email address listed on VIT’s system. You will receive an email with a reset password link – it is important that you only click on the link once. The email may take up to 2 hours to receive – check your junk mail folder. Please note: the link will expire within 24 hours.

Please do not attempt to set up a new account, as this will cause duplicate accounts and delay your ability to complete your annual registration tasks. If you do not receive a password reset link, please check that your junk mail and ensure that VIT has been added to your safe senders list.

          3. Select the orange ‘complete registration tasks’ tile and follow the prompts.
