Dr Harry Little preschool shares sweet treats with frontline workers to say thank you
Kindergarten staff from Bendigo’s Dr Harry Little Preschool recently conducted a “doughnut drop” to staff at the Bendigo Health COVID-19 centre and Bendigo Respiratory Clinic to thank them for all their hard work as the COVID-19 pandemic persists.
The doughnuts were left over after sales to raise funds for a cubby house had ended, and rather than selling them off individually, the fundraising committee wanted to acknowledge the efforts of local healthcare workers.
“We see them out there in the rain making sure we get vaccinated and tested,” preschool fundraising coordinator Amanda Phillips told local publication The Bendigo Advertiser.
“We know how much of a thankless job it can be, so we wanted to put a smile on their faces. The staff were so thankful and excited to see us there, it was very heartwarming.”
The preschool is one of only a few committee run kindergartens in the region, and relies on fundraising for upgrades and refurbishments. Through the doughnut drive the preschool raised more than $3,000 for a new cubby, with families selling 473 dozen doughnuts to their networks.
“Because of the uncertainty with COVID-19 in the last year or so, we haven’t been able to have our annual fair, which has traditionally been our main fundraiser for the kinder,” Ms Phillips explained.
