FDCA recognises Queensland’s Janelle and Craig McIvor as 2020 educators of the year
Queensland couple Janelle and Craig McIvor have been recognised as educators of the year in the 2020 Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) awards at a ceremony held in Canberra late last week.
The McIvor’s were successful in what was a record breaking year for FDCA, with over 5,600 nominations received in recognition of the outstanding efforts made by family day care providers during the challenges of 2020.
Two other awards, the coordinator of the year, and the service of the year, were also announced at the 27 February gala dinner, with South Australian Lyn Kerr taking the coordinator category, and service of the year named as Choices Family Day Care, also from Queensland.
“The Awards are the only national event of its kind for family day care educators, coordinators and services. Our National Winners demonstrated ongoing excellency in pedagogy, practice and professional development and we are thrilled to recognise their efforts,” Family Day Care Australia Chief Executive Officer Andrew Paterson said.
He attributed the number of nominations received for the 2020 awards as being “testament to the achievements of each and every educator, coordinator and service that make up the family day care community.”
The Awards, he added, are a way for the broader community to celebrate and acknowledge the unique strengths of family day care and how strong relationships between educators, coordinators, services and families, and a nurturing home learning environment, make family day care “the natural choice for quality early childhood education and care”.
Family day care supports over 70,000 Australian families. To view the 2020 National Finalists and the 2020 National Winners, visit the FDCA website here.
