by Freya Lucas

February 11, 2021

New early childhood teachers (ECTs) and experienced ECTs who will mentor them are being sought for the Mentoring and Coaching Project for new Early Childhood Teachers in Children’s Services in NSW , funded by the NSW Department of Education.

Mentees are eligible to participate in in the program if they meet the following criteria:

  • an ECT working in Children’s Services in NSW
  • have less than five years’ full-time experience working in children services
  • have completed an ACECQA approved ECT qualification
  • are interested in doing a mentoring and coaching course and being mentored over 16 weeks by an experienced ECT.

The project will be conducted from March – August 2021 by a team of early childhood researchers from the Macquarie University School of Education, led by Associate Professor Fay Hadley.

Experienced ECT mentors for the project should meet the following conditions:

  • be an ECT with more than five years’ experience in Children’s Services
  • have completed an ACECQA approved ECT qualification
  • be interested in being a mentor to new ECTs working in NSW.

The aims of this project are in line with the NSW DoE Workforce Strategy, specifically focus area three (build the skills and capability of the workforce by supporting…teachers to participate in professional development) and focus area four (embed sustainable practices that contribute to workforce stability and reduce the impact of staff turnover.)

Interested participants should first speak with their service leader, and, if applicable, an area manager or other supervisor, if operating as part of a broader organisation, to confirm their support, before registering an expression of interest

Further information is available here. Expressions of interest must be received by 12 February.
