It offers a practical framework and tips for supporting children in the immediate aftermath, short-term and long-term following a disaster or community trauma – as well as preparedness skills and knowledge you can use in your daily practice and programs.

The impact of trauma on the child
This course will introduce learners to key understandings about trauma and adversity, and their impact on children. It explores the ways that a child might respond to trauma, and how children and families can recover from trauma. It will also introduce a trauma sensitive approach to supporting children who have experienced trauma or adversity, and invite learners to reflect on how they can integrate this into their interactions with children.

Why mindset matters: see the meaning in children’s behaviour
This workshop explores the question: How does the way we think about children, especially those who are behaving in ways we might find challenging, affect our ability to provide the nurturing relationships they need for true inclusion and emotional wellbeing? Participants will identify ways in which authentic and secure relationships with children help when things go wrong and identify responsive, positive strategies that support children’s self-regulation.
