Are you a diploma-qualified early childhood educator? Upgrade your qualifications with our Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education and qualify to be an early childhood teacher and leader in your field. The course will build on your strengths as an early childhood educator and prepare you for a career as a skilled, critical and effective teacher teaching infants and children from birth to five years of age in childcare, kindergartens and pre-schools.

We know quality early childhood education provides a strong foundation for young children to thrive, not just in school but throughout their life. There is strong demand for early childhood teachers who can foster the learning and key capabilities of young children at a critical stage in their development.

Designed with experienced early childhood educators in mind, the Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education has been specifically developed for early childhood professionals who want to upgrade their Diploma qualification to an industry recognised fourth year to enable advancement into leadership roles within early childhood settings. This course is two years part-time, in online study mode, and has Commonwealth Supported Places available.

The course aims to provide you with a strong foundation for transformative leadership, with the capacity to build sustainable communities, and to educate young children to become engaged 21st century citizens. Closely connected to the prestigious Fleer’s Conceptual PlayLab, the course focuses on early childhood education as an integrated field, building your expertise across play, science and sustainability.

During the course you will complete 60 days of professional experience in early childhood settings, allowing you to further develop your professional knowledge and teaching skills to engage young children in inspiring, exciting and challenging learning experiences.

This course has been designed to allow you to work while you study, and is offered online with an optional face-to-face component at our Peninsula Campus.

If you plan to teach in an early childhood education and care service in Victoria then you’ll need to register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Students planning to register and work as early childhood teachers in other states in Australia or overseas should check registration requirements with local teacher regulatory bodies in case additional requirements apply.
