***** NOTE ENDS *****

Teaching three-year-olds as part of a kindergarten program can be stimulating, complex and, ultimately, extremely rewarding. Quality early learning that adheres to the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) is always about practitioners responding to and progressing each child’s health, well-being, learning and development. At the same time, there are a number of ways to approach good practice and strengthen pedagogy in delivering a three-year-old kindergarten program.

There are also many ideas and stereotypes about the challenges teachers and educators face when working with three-year-olds, including as part of mixed-age groups.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) invites you to hear from experienced early childhood expert Catharine Hydon and a panel of early childhood teachers to discuss the strategies they use to ensure three-year-olds get the most out of their early learning.

The Minister for Education, James Merlino, will also address the group and launch a selection of teaching resources designed to support those delivering three-year-old kindergarten programs.

This session will focus on how to:

• maximise the positive impact of teaching in multi-aged group setting (e.g. three and four-year-old children in the same group)

• meet the learning and development needs of individual children within a multi-aged group setting

• accommodate children’s individual learning, rest and relaxation needs within a longer day program

• discuss the benefits of 15 hours of a three-year-old kindergarten program with families in the local community.

Early childhood teachers, educators and professionals in the early Three-Year-Old Kindergarten roll-out areas can watch a live-streamed version of the seminar in selected regional locations. DET staff will be available to answer any questions.

RSVP is essential for those wishing to attend at these locations.

Those in later roll-out areas are invited to attend the event at the Bastow Institute or live-stream the event from their home or workplace.
