THE ‘REAL’ CHILDREN’S GARDEN: what are children looking for in a ‘green’ playspace
The idea of ‘green’ or ‘nature play spaces’ has come on leaps and bounds in the last two decades. Providing access to planting and natural materials is now seen as a standard part of playspace design in all sorts of contexts, from kindergartens, to primary school grounds, to public playgrounds.
But there’s a question: what do children think of our efforts on this so far?
This session uses a bit of history, a bit of research and a bit of active involvement with chlldren to find out exactly what it is that children are looking for in a green playspace and asks if we are getting it right.
The answer is … sort of. Yet there are a few key things things that we seem to be missing.
