Despite significant efforts by a range of agencies, the number of children and young people being removed into the out of home care (OOHC) system continues to rise.
At this webinar ARACY will launch a new report, ‘Showing the Light: Supporting Young Parents with Experience of the Care System’, which explores what it takes to mitigate early parenthood among care leavers as a driver of further contact with the child protection system.
As a known cohort, young people in the care system can be targeted for support early, both to prevent early parenthood occurring and to help them parent successfully when it does.
The webinar will commence with a brief presentation of key findings from the report, including recommendations on how young parents with an OOHC background can best be supported, and key levers of change for improving future outcomes for young parents leaving care.
Diana Harris, ARACY Acting CEO and Lead for Knowledge Translation, will facilitate a panel discussion including experts Prof Philip Mendes, Director of the Social Inclusion and Social Policy Research Unit in the Department of Social Work, Monash University, Jess Cocks from Life Without Barriers, Joseph McDowall, Executive Director (Research), CREATE Foundation; and youth ambassador and young parent advocate, Shelley Keevers.
