Resilience in the Classroom
Resilience has become the biggest buzzword in the booming wellbeing movement in education over recent years. Ideas like mindfulness, gratitude, hope, growth mindset, strengths, and other positive psychology concepts are being thrown around willy nilly as we try to raise the resilience of our students. But a lot of it is hot air. Much of it has limited scientific support. And there’s a whole lot of hocus pocus combined with educator eye-rolling when it comes to promoting resilience in wellbeing in schools.
So how do we actually do this stuff right? And why does it matter? Join Dr Justin Coulson for a conversation with the Northern Yorke Partnership as we explore the practical side of resilience in the classroom. We’ll take a look at simple things we can do to encourage academic risk-taking. We’ll discover everything we don’t know that we don’t know about growth mindsets. And we’ll unpack how the feedback we give to students may be undermining their resilience, even as we do our best to support it.
This is a provocative session that you won’t want to miss. Resilience in the classroom with Dr Justin Coulson. April 1, Kadina.
