About us
For over 40 years, Family Day Care Association of Queensland (FDCQ) has worked tirelessly to inspire wonderful childhoods. Our purpose is to lead, promote and grow exceptional home-based education and care.
As the peak body for Family Day Care in Queensland, we advocate and represent the sector’s needs to government and key stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for children. We also provide a range of training and development programs for providers, services and educators. Informing our work, as a peak, is our operation of Enhance Family Dare Care services. In addition, we operate the In-Home Care Support Agency in Queensland and Victoria.
We are a value based, not-for-profit organisation, with a positive and supportive workplace culture; recognising that the key to achieving our purpose is our people!
About the roles
FDCQ is a company limited by guarantee and is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission. We have a constituted skills-based Board of Directors.
The Board is currently seeking to strengthen its collective expertise and would particularly welcome expressions of interest from individuals with experience or a strong interest in financial management, as well as those with a background in governance and compliance. There may also be opportunities for directors to take on leadership roles—such as chairing specific committees—after an initial settling-in period, based on interest and alignment with the Board’s evolving needs.
Additional background and experience in one or more of the following areas would be welcome:

Directors are also required to sit on a specialist sub-committee and are encouraged to make themselves available to attend social and public functions, held by the organisation.
You will be joining a team of Directors who are a driving force in setting the strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring its long and successful future. FDCQ is refreshing its strategic agenda to chart the way forward for a vibrant, innovative, high quality and viable home-based education and care sector, that delivers exceptional home-based early education and care for children and families.
This role is an unpaid, voluntary position. Reimbursement of reasonable Board related expenses is available. We estimate a time commitment of approximately eight to ten hours per month, including meeting time and preparation. Board and committee meetings are held quarterly and run for approximately two and a half hours and two hours, respectively.
About you
This is an exciting opportunity for a business and community leader to be involved in the future of the Family Day Care and In-Home Child Care sector. You believe, like we do, that successful futures start early. You are passionate and interested about children and early childhood development and the importance it plays in the lives of individuals, families and our broader community.
We are looking for accomplished professionals whose acumen will translate seamlessly into the Board environment. You will have demonstrated high level strategic thinking and leadership skills.
Your background and experience in governance and compliance and financial management and accounting will complement the existing skills of our Board.
You are a strong communicator who will apply your strategic skills and your expertise, as well as contributing more broadly to the general business of the Board.
FDCQ is committed to a Board which reflects the diversity of our community and encourages applications from Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander people or people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Previous experience on Boards is desired. Graduates of the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Course, or similar, will be highly regarded. Knowledge of the Australian Early Child Childhood Education and Care environment is valued but not necessary.
