NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern commits to putting children first

Addressing her audience at the 9th Annual Social Good Summit, held in New York on September 23rd New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern affirmed her commitment to New Zealand’s children, stating: “If you ask me why I’m in politics, my answer will be simple: children.”

Social Good Summit Sponsor, Mashable, reported the following comments from Ardern:

“When I came into office, somewhat surprisingly, I did so with the single-minded determination to improve the lives of children in New Zealand,” she said, speaking alongside the executive director of UNICEF, Henrietta Fore.

The Social Good Summit, held annually during the United Nations General Assembly week, unites global citizens and progressive thought leaders around a common theme – #2030NOW.

Using this platform, Ardern outlined that her government was committed to making New Zealand “the best place in the world to be a child,not to raise children, but to be a child.”

Ardern’s comments echo her commitment to a more family friendly New Zealand, as announced in May 2018, with the advent of a $5.5 billion package, expected to boost the incomes of an estimated 385,000 New Zealand families by 2021.
