Regional VET talent strengthens early childhood education pathways in WA

The Western Australian Training Awards have this year highlighted the vital role of vocational education and training (VET) in bolstering essential early childhood services particularly in regional communities. Among the 2025 finalists are educators and trainees whose contributions are enhancing childcare capacity and quality across the state.
The Skills and TAFE Minister, Amber–Jade Sanderson, has announced 43 finalists, including 32 individuals, among whom 21 regional students, trainees, apprentices, and lecturers were recognised. This strong regional representation underscores the critical role that regional TAFE institutions play in ensuring accessible training and childcare services.
Significantly, two of the four International Student of the Year finalists were trained at Central Regional TAFE and are now working at the Goldfields Child Care Centre in Kalgoorlie, boosting the quality and capacity of early childhood education in that community
Winners in both individual and organisational categories receive valuable recognition, including $3,000 cash prizes, ambassadorial status within the sector, and promotional opportunities. These accolades shine a spotlight on regional talent and support their ability to further contribute to community service provision.
This year’s finalists represent diverse fields, from community services to early childhood education and care, as well as engineering, hospitality, and creative industries. Training Awards finalists and winners often go on to state and national roles, serving as ambassadorial figures who inspire others to pursue VET pathways.
For the early childhood sector, the inclusion of childcare professionals among finalists identifies the growing recognition of VET-trained educators’ impact in delivering high‑quality care. It also highlights the importance of investing in local training pathways to address workforce needs and ensure continuity of care for families in regional WA.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony in September 2025.
