Teachers Health and TUH to merge, forming Australia’s largest industry health fund

July 01, 2025

From 1 July 2025, Teachers Health and Queensland-based Teachers Union Health (TUH) will merge to form a single entity under Teachers Health Group. The new group will deliver services to  nearly 500,000 educators, nurses and midwives across Australia.

The strategic merger brings together two not-for-profit health funds with a combined 120-year history of supporting education professionals, including those working in early childhood education and care (ECEC), and their families.

The unified group will encompass the Teachers Health, Nurses & Midwives Health, UniHealth, TUH and Union Health brands. It will be the only health fund in Australia dedicated exclusively to education and care professionals.

Teachers Health Group CEO Brad Joyce said the merger reflects a strong, shared commitment to member wellbeing and sector-specific service.

“This is not just a coming together of two organisations. It’s a unification of two legacies, a member-first philosophy and a shared purpose,” Mr Joyce said.

He also emphasised that members will not experience any detrimental changes to products or pricing. “The merger has been well planned to ensure a seamless member experience and minimal impact to members day to day,” he said. “In fact, this is the start of an exciting new chapter for our members, who will have access to broader and enhanced benefits, and a larger, national network of healthcare partners, making it easier to access the right support and services when and where they’re needed.”

“With close to 500,000 members, the newly merged entity is well positioned to navigate ongoing industry challenges while continuing to deliver tailored support to those who care for others.”

The merger will maintain the Teachers Health brand and identity. It will build on the governance strengths of both organisations to ensure continued trust and sector alignment.
