Sahsha Ghee welcomed as Goodstart’s new Torres Strait Islander Cultural Liaison
Sahsha Ghee is Goodstart Early Learning’s new Torres Strait Islander Cultural Liaison.
Sahsha, a proud Torres Strait Islander (Mer/Murray Island), Aboriginal man (Kabbi Kabbi) is passionate about sharing culture and knowledge, and will work closely with Goodstart centre teams and the community, guiding them in creating culturally supportive environments, also playing a vital role in implementing Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and fostering cultural safety and responsiveness across the organisation.
Prior to joining Goodstart, Mr Ghee has run Torres Strait Islander performances and workshops for early education centres, primary schools, and high schools, especially around important cultural celebrations such as National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.
He is a musician and has developed strong community connections through music, having come from a musical pamle (family), with their band CKNU proudly performing, representing and sharing Torres Strait culture all around the nation and overseas. He also conducts a Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness program.
In accepting the position Mr Ghee said he was looking forward to connecting with Goodstarters and the wider community.
“I am looking forward to building strong relationships with Centres around the country and sharing Torres Strait Island culture in practice. I understand the impact Goodstarters have in shaping the next generation and the opportunity we have to walk together on this reconciliation journey with our families, children, and communities.”
“Though I have only just started, I already get a sense that Goodstart is a community, working together towards a great vision, and everyone helps and supports each other along the way.”
