Annual Golf Day a successful fundraiser for Wee Waa & District Preschool
November has been a successful month of fundraising for the Wee Waa & District Preschool, with both the Golf Day and Melbourne Cup Calcutta at the Wee Waa Golf Club being significant sources of funds for the popular early learning service.
Although busy with the demands of harvest, the community turned out in full support of the preschool, providing a substantial contribution to the preschool’s ongoing fundraising efforts.
The day kicked off with the event’s regular and committed golfers battling through warmer temperatures and windy conditions to complete their rounds, local news source Narrabri Courier shared.
Willy Baker, Troy Bartz and Jeremy Thorne took home the top team prize, with Ty Baker, Angus Galagher and Jackson Humphries the team to take runners up.
Mr Galagher also secured the ‘nearest to pin’ prize on the ninth hole, while Anna Baird won the women’s prize on the 18th hole.
Along with the golf, the event benefitted from the inclusion of a Ladies Long Lunch, made possible through a grant from the Narrabri Shire Community Financial Assistance Program.
Guests enjoyed catering from Connie Smith, with desserts supplied by Wee Waa Hot Bread. Cocktails complemented the menu, with Rosemary from Black Snake Distillery generously donating her time to mixing up refreshing margaritas and palomas.
A huge drawcard of the day was the Ann-Maree Galagher Memorial Champagne Auction, sponsored once again by the Galagher family in memory of Ann-Maree, a former president of the preschool and a huge advocate for early childhood education who spent many years supporting its growth.
The Melbourne Cup Calcutta, held in the afternoon, was hosted by emcee Dick Crutcher, who took responsibility for the auctioning of the horses, with bidders even phoning in from headers and holidays, unable to attend in person.
The overall prize pool for the Calcutta reached over $6300, with proceeds going to the top three place-getters, as well as a portion going directly to the preschool.
Organisers thanked local businesses for their support, noting that without it, the event would not be possible.
Ten businesses generously sponsored holes on the golf course, while several others contributed prizes for both the golf tournament and the champagne auction. Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards the continued renovation of the preschool’s front yard, which is being transformed into exciting new outdoor learning environments.
The Wee Waa & District Preschool extended its sincere thanks to all who attended, donated, and volunteered, making this annual event a shining example of the community spirit that helps the preschool continue its mission of providing quality education and care for local children.
