Best Start, Best Life reforms need the best leaders at the helm – Opportunities in Victoria

With 50 new Victorian Government owned and operated early learning and childcare services set to open by 2032, recruitment initiatives are progressing to ensure these services have high quality leaders and staff. 

 

The Victorian Government has committed $14 billion to expand kindergarten programs across the state and to give Victorian children the best start to life, and the 50 new services will be built in communities where they are needed most, offering childcare, Three and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten, and then eventually a smooth transition into Pre-Prep. 

 

In some cases, these services will be co-located with other services like maternal and child health services and playgroups, and where possible they will be located at, or alongside, schools, hospitals, TAFEs and other major employers to make childcare more accessible and convenient to parents and carers. 

 

These services will be built on principles of community and inclusion, right from the start, and have been introduced to Country in consultation with the traditional owners of the land they share. 

 

Such impactful reforms and dynamic spaces need strong and capable leaders. From 2025, new early learning services at Eaglehawk North Primary School, Moomba Park Primary School, Murtoa College and Sunshine Primary School will be seeking leadership from experienced early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals. 

 

The first round of management and leadership positions were made available at the end of August, and throughout the months of September and October the Department of Education will be seeking complementary roles such as early childhood teachers, educators and cooks, with a view to ensuring that these new services have high quality staff to serve the needs of each community. 

 

To support and encourage applications from inside and outside Victoria, these positions are eligible for financial incentives to ensure that leaders, educators and their families can become part of their new communities. 

 

Individual incentives of $9,000, along with relocation assistance and support are available, and in some instances, location incentives of up to $50,000 may be available also. 

 

Positions for the new services will be advertised through Early Learning Victoria.
