Berry Street announces Shane Lucas as new CEO
Independent family service organisation Berry Street has announced the appointment of Shane Lucas as its new chief executive.
Mr Lucas has extensive leadership experience gained through roles in the for-purpose, government and private sectors, including early childhood education and care (ECEC).
He has previously served as CEO of the Early Learning Association Australia, Global Head of Sustainable Development at ANZ Bank, and as a full-time Member of the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal (Migration Division).
Berry Street hopes that Mr Lucas will bring a new perspective and diverse experiences, joining the organisation at a pivotal time in its almost 150 years of providing support and services to children and families experiencing trauma and disadvantage.
His experience and values align strongly with Berry Street’s long and proud history of supporting children, young people and families, and providing out-of-home care, trauma and family violence services, as well as transformative education programs.
“I am delighted to welcome Shane Lucas to Berry Street. His track record of engaging with communities and working for public policy reform and research-informed service delivery outcomes ensures he is well placed to lead the organisation into the future,” Dr Joanna Flynn, Berry Street President said.
“At a time when organisations like Berry Street are needed more than ever, having a leader that understands the environment in which we operate and the complex mix of stakeholders we engage with is particularly important.”
Ms Flynn thanked previous CEO Michael Perusco for his six year tender, during which he expanded Berry Street’s vital work, and further embedded evidence-based programs in its service offerings, achieving greater positive impact for children, young people and families.
Mr Lucas said he was humbled and excited to be taking on this role in an organisation he has admired for many years.
“I look forward to contributing to the positive outcomes achieved by Berry Street, which lead to improvements in the lives of tens of thousands of children and families across Victoria and around Australia.”
Mr Lucas’ tenure with Berry Street will begin on 29 April 2024.
