On International Women’s Day LCCC celebrates the diversity of its team
Friday 8 March is International Women’s Day (IWD), an occasion which celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
In 2024, the IWD theme is Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.
To mark IWD the team at Laverton Community Children’s Centre (LCCC) is celebrating the diversity of its team, which has representatives from many countries of the world in its team of 54.
Krystle, Michelle, Melanny, Tina, Narelle and Victoria make up LCCC’s leadership team, ably supported by Jenny, Helene, Kerry and Kylie who are the mentors of LCCC. As a collective, the mentor team has devoted over 15 years to LCCC, a big achievement in a sector where turnover is often high.
The mentors are known around the centre for leading with grace, strength and kindness, while supporting the leadership team.
Pam, Jen, Cathy and Lynda are the kindergarten team, who support children in all areas of their development, under the motto “it’s all about the children, and doing what is right for them and their needs.”
Many of the LCCC team have been juggling the challenges of raising a family, learning English, studying and the daunting challenge of a new career in ECEC.
“Most of us would have viewed any of these obstacles as barriers too large to overcome,” LCCC shared with Star Weekly Wyndham. “The determination of these women being able to undertake these challenges, encompasses International Women’s Day.”
LCCC, Laverton Education Centre and the Laverton Community Centre, are part of a broader community, known as Laverton Community Integrated Services.
Being part of the Community Integrated Services context allows the service to take on student placements and volunteers.
Stepping forward to independence, students assisted in the kitchen, early childhood education and care students conduct their required placement hours when possible.
“LCCC is grateful for our remarkable, independent international women that help shape our future,” the leadership team shared.
