AHRC cartoon released to help children understand their rights
A brief cartoon, created by the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), and designed to support children to know more about their rights and responsibilities, was launched by Megan Mitchell, the National Children’s Commissioner in Sydney yesterday.
The video is the latest addition to the Commission’s growing suite of education materials, and was created with the help of more than 20,000 young people who participated in the 2018 kids’ rights survey with ABC’s Behind the News (BTN) program.
The video features some of the issues that children and young people have consistently raised as most important to them – being treated fairly, feeling safe, having access to information and having a say about things that affect them.
“Children have a deep sense of what is just and right” Ms Mitchell said “This video is a unique resource, educating children about the value of human rights for all”
Ms Mitchell encouraged educators to make use of the resource, share the film, and make use of the range of resources created by the AHRC.
