Jay Grafton, a pre-service early childhood teacher (ECT) studying at Notre Dame University, has been awarded an Early Childhood Education Bursary from OMEP Australia.

The annual bursary supports students pursuing early childhood courses in Western Australia at a university level, promoting academic excellence, addressing financial need and recognising dedication to working with young children.

Ms Grafton was lauded for her outstanding academic achievements and unwavering commitment to the field of early education, with an impressive record which includes 25 High Distinctions, 6 Distinctions, and 2 Credits, resulting in a GPA of 3.69.

She has consistently demonstrated a high level of dedication, attending all classes, submitting work punctually and actively participating in class discussions and learning experiences.

Ms Grafton was nominated by School of Education Early Childhood Program Coordinator and Lecturer Tracy Treasure, who spoke highly of her capabilities and academic achievements, describing her as “a capable pre-service teacher who consistently demonstrated a sound approach to teaching and learning within the classroom.”

“Jay’s exceptional grades in all her professional experience placements reflect her commitment to excellence in early childhood education,” Ms Treasure said.

Upon receiving the bursary, Ms Grafton expressed her gratitude, saying, “It’s such a great honor to be awarded this from such an amazing organisation”.

“It’s because of all my beautiful teachers here as well,” she said. “Thank you for igniting the fire and stoking the embers.”

The Early Childhood Education Bursary is valued at $2,000 and will allow Ms Grafton to focus on her studies and teaching responsibilities, supporting her as a new mother.

The funds can be used to support further education, cover course fees, buy study aids or textbooks, attend seminars or conferences, or for other educational purposes.

In addition to the financial support, Ms Grafton will receive complimentary membership to OMEP WA Inc. for one year, providing her with valuable networking opportunities and access to resources in the early childhood education field.

The Sector extends its congratulations to Ms Grafton on this significant achievement.
