ECEC Provider in Focus: Cottage Academy

Cottage Academy is a long day care provider with one service in Clontarf, Queensland, providing care for 58 children. It has provisional approval and has not yet been rated or assessed against the National Quality Standard.

What is the history of Cottage Academy?

Cottage Academy was granted service approval in February 2023. 

Where are Cottage Academy services currently located?

Cottage Academy has one operational site in Clontarf, with a second due to open in late 2024 in the Bargara Central shopping centre.

Commenting on the acquisition and development of the Bargara site, Cottage Academy CEO Clint Devereaux said there are only two childcare centres (sic.) in the local catchment catering for 740 children under five and 916 children including five-year-olds.

“The area is severely undersupplied, and we see this as an opportunity to provide local children and their families with the highest-level care and learning by designing a state-of-the-art childcare facility,” he said.

“We are extremely excited to be invited into the local community and we can’t wait for local families to become part of our family.”

What is Cottage Academy’s vision and approach to early learning?

“Our ethos is our deeply held belief that all children should be given the opportunity to exceed early learning expectations,” a spokesperson said. 

Are there any unique aspects to the Cottage Academy offer?

Cottage Academy boasts “purposefully designed one-of-a-kind programs,” to provide an environment where children are constantly warmly and safely nurtured to their fullest potential.

These programs are:

• Exposure To The Big World
• Advanced Learning League
• 1-On-1 Excellency.

“We pair this with our pristine new centre and experienced educators for a high-quality, boutique early learning journey,” Cottage Academy noted.

The 1-On-1 Excellency program commits carers to taking time each day to have one on one connections with every child “for some education”. 

“We don’t aim to have our centres overflowing with students; instead, we endeavor to have a child’s mind overflowing with knowledge, creativity, and excitement.”

The Exposure To The Big World program refers to in-centre visits from external service providers and community-based excursions, while the Advanced Learning League is “a thoughtfully designed program that teaches advanced lessons from an early age” through technology, yoga, cooking, dance, music and nature-based programs.
