OUR PHILOSOPHY
Mount Lawley Childcare centre is built on the traditional land of the Noongar people. We acknowledge the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander People as the traditional custodians of this country and their connection to the land, water and community in which we live and learn. We pay our respects to them, their customs both past, present, and emerging.
Mount Lawley Childcare centre acknowledges and respects the continuing association with Noongar people, the traditional custodians of the land, upon which we are located, and our programmes operate. In particular, acknowledgment and respect are offered to the Wadjuk Noongar people, the clan for the area that includes Mount Lawley, which traditionally is known as Jinjeejerdup (jin-gee-jer-dup) or ‘the place of the honeyeater’.
“We say thank you to the people for letting us build on the land to do our learning” Ruby.
Mount Lawley Childcare Centre is a non-for-profit organisation overseen by a committee consisting of families, members of our local community and educators.
We believe in building strong relationships with our families and children, by providing the highest quality of care in a safe, caring, nurturing, welcoming and homely environment. Our team of strong highly trained educators provide an inclusive play-based approach to learning, where the children are supported and encouraged to develop their skills, beliefs and understandings through fun, creative experiences.
We recognise that each child at our centre is a unique individual with a wonderous background, belief system and cultural knowledge, our educators take this into consideration when creating experiences to support the children with their development and growth. Our planning is supported by the Early Years Learning Framework, Developmental Milestones, The Convention on The Rights of The Child and a variety of Early Childhood Theorists.
Our children are cared for in warm, friendly, and inviting rooms, where all their needs are catered for, and large outdoor environments where the children have access to a variety of equipment which helps with their development and supports their investigations.
As a centre we support our families, in a personal, helpful, and confidential manner, we are building relationships with our local community allowing our children to grow into respectful community members now and in years to come.
As we strive to protect our environment the children are encouraged to be sustainable, through recycling, saving food scraps for a worm farms, planting and harvesting their own veggies and reducing the paper wastage in their learning as we are working towards a more maintainable future.
