For ECT Kate making the move from Brisbane to Colac has been “best idea ever”

Early childhood teacher (ECT) Kate made the move from sunny Brisbane to the regional city of Colac in Victoria to join Wydinia Kindergarten, a Barwon Child, Youth and Family (BCYF) Services facility, last year and said it is “the best decision she has ever made”.
Victoria currently has a wide range of incentives and opportunities for those in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector, which includes financial support for relocation expenses, and support to find a position in one of the many services offering three- and four-year-old kindergarten.
Kate has previously worked as an ECEC educator and a primary school teacher, but says that Kindergarten teaching is her favourite of the three environments, one that has offered her great opportunities to work with three and four-year-old children as well as still having work-life balance.
Although moving to Colac was “a big move,” it’s one which she says has proved very beneficial and she feels extremely supported by the kindergarten and wider Colac community. She has also been able to visit some of the most beautiful areas in Victoria that are right on her doorstep, from the Great Ocean Road, the Twelve Apostles, the Otways and all of the lovely towns across the way where beautiful food, drink and art experiences are abundant.
“I feel like I’ve learnt so much in the short time I’ve been here,” Kate says.
“It’s a great community to live in, it’s a great community to work in. It’s been such a hugely impactful experience for me.”
