ELAA shares resource to support leaders with performance management conversations
While it’s best practice to address issues of underperformance in a timely manner, these conversations can be complex for early childhood education and care (ECEC) leaders, and can be a pain point for many.
To support, the Early Learning Association Australia (ELAA) has released a number of tip sheets and tools which have been collated into a Managing Performance Related Concerns (MPRC) resource.
“Every service has a set of requirements for the behaviour and performance that employees must exhibit,” an ELAA representative said.
“Expected standards of behaviour and performance, in line with the demands of the position and the service’s culture, must be made clear to every employee up front and at the time of recruitment.”
Potentially difficult conversations about performance can become easier for leaders over time with the capacity to ground standard and expectations in documented policy and expectations.
Discussions allow the employee to participate fully in the conversation and, as a result, the employee is better able to comprehend the employer’s position regarding performance concerns, the impact on service quality and delivery, the employer’s expectations, and any potential consequences for repetition of the misconduct/underperformance.
