Male educators appear in NT Education and Care Awards for the first time
The 2022 recipients of the Northern Territory Education and Care Awards have been announced, celebrating educators, services or programs that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving the lives and outcomes of Territory children and their families.
For the first time in the history of the awards, two male educators were recognised, with NT Minister for Education Eva Lawler saying it was “great to see men represented in the early childhood sector”.
This 2022 recipients are as follows:
Daniel Nicolson – Haileybury Rendall Early Learning Centre
Outstanding Educator – sponsored by Industry Skills Advisory Council NT: Andrea Norman – Indi Kindi Borroloola
Outstanding Aboriginal Educator – sponsored by Batchelor Institute: Hup Lye – Mother Teresa Early Learning Centre
Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher – sponsored by Kentish Lifelong Learning & Care: Cherry Grant – Mother Teresa Early Learning Centre
Outstanding Leader – sponsored by GTNT: Malak Preschool
Outstanding Early Childhood Program (theme ‘Communication’) – sponsored by Catholic Education NT: Malak Preschool
The Malak Preschool Program is designed to improve the quality of early communication, learning and care for three to four-year-olds, strengthening relations between children, educators, and families.
Malak Preschool was also recognised for its outstanding research culture of professional inquiry, to inform effective pedagogy, improve child oral language, and promote child voice. The program has evolved from a deliberate inquiry process and reach, to understand effective early childhood teaching practices and impacts across local and inter/national contexts, judges noted.
“We know the first five years of a child’s life is integral to their ongoing success,” Ms Lawler said.
“Our early childhood and care educators work hard to provide enriched learning experiences and positive influences on our children.”
