A 1970s church in Hilton will soon be a modern ECEC facility for 63 children

A former Anglican church built in the 1970s on Collick Street in the West Australian suburb of Hilton will enjoy a new lease on life as a modern early childhood education and care (ECEC) facility with capacity for 63 children, local news source Perth Now has shared. 

As part of the $2 million redevelopment the building will receive a colourful revamp, and half of the car park will be turned into play spaces for the children. 

Colick Street already has an ECEC service, with Amici Early Learning located just 150m away. Despite this the development application was unanimously approved by the Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel.

Repurposing the church for ECEC, panelists said, was a good outcome for the local area, despite the parking shortfall. 

Fremantle Councillor Rachel Pemberton said that while the parking shortfall may be an issue for parents dropping off and picking up their children, the panel was in agreement about the value of the development.

Panel members agreed repurposing the building for childcare was “a good outcome” and the centre would be a positive addition to the local area.
