Victorian Undergraduate ECT offers released

The next generation of Victoria’s early childhood teachers (ECTs) have received first round offers in Victoria this week, with 1367 main round offers being made yesterday to students who had applied to study education, including early childhood.
The Excellence in Teacher Education reforms, announced in late 2016, require students wishing to study teaching to have a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70, a move which the Victorian government says is aimed at ensuring teaching students in Victoria will be from the top 30 per cent of Year 12 graduates.
Prior to starting a teaching course, applicants’ personal attributes are also assessed to ensure they are a good fit for teaching, and all students wishing to study as teachers need to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE)
LANTITE is a national requirement to ensure the skills and capability of teachers seeking registration as a teacher. ECTs and other teachers who meet the standard of LANTITE demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to the top 30 per cent of the Australian population.
From 1 January, 2019, only those who have completed the LANTITE can be registered as a teacher
Victorian Minister for Education, James Merlino, congratulated those who had received their offer, saying “Everyone knows a great teacher can make all the difference and we’re making sure our teaching courses attract the highest quality students.”
