Livingstone Shire Council approves new ECEC service for Yeppoon to meet demand
Queensland’s Livingstone Shire Council has approved plans for a 115 place early childhood education and care (ECEC) service in Yeppoon in response to rising demand in the region.
The approval comes in spite of council approving a 68 place service in October, and the addition of 50 places to an existing service in Emu Park.
“We’re experiencing significant growth with many interstate families moving away from cities during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Andy Ireland said.
Proposed for 9 and 11 Tanby Road, the new service will create 22 local jobs, whilst also easing the burden on the local community, with the Mayor saying that some residents have “been on waiting lists for years” in an attempt to secure care.
“Demand for child care is extremely high and these new centres will help ease the burden many parents and carers are facing,” he added.
“It’s great to see developments that will support our growing community and also boost our economy.”
