Safety concerns for children delay the approval of $2.7m ECEC service in Cloverdale
A decision about a proposed development on the corner of Abernethy Road and Wright Street in the Perth suburb of Cloverdale has been delayed over safety concerns for children attending the facility, local news source Perth Now has reported.
The $2.7 million childcare centre and two-storey office building has been positioned along a busy road in Cloverdale and has come under fire from some residents who voiced concerns about the proximity of the proposed centre to the busy intersection.
Earlier this month the majority of panel members on the Metro Inner-South JDAP deferred a decision in relation to the approval, or otherwise, of the facility, citing “significant potential health and safety risks for children due to the outdoor play areas abutting the busy intersection of Abernethy Road and Wright Street”.
Local residents who are opposed to the facility said positioning the service on a major intersection and in close proximity to a shopping centre amounted to “a disaster” with others sharing concerns about traffic congestion caused by parents entering and exiting the facility.
