Daisy makes her debut to support young children to transition to school
New South Wales education minister, Sarah Mitchell, has paid a visit to St Peter’s Preschool in Tamworth to launch a new book, designed to support preschool children to make the transition to “big school” in 2021 and beyond.
Daisy’s story is part of a suite of resources launched by the NSW Government to support children and educators to navigate the transition from early learning to school.
Ms Mitchell was joined at the launch by Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson to launch the story, which features native Australian animal characters, and walks children through what a school day might look like, including ringing bells for lunch, working in small groups, and making new friends, with an emphasis on having fun.
Other resources in the suite include a Transition to School Guide for Early Childhood Education which was developed in collaboration with early childhood teachers, primary school principals and kindergarten teachers, which assists educators to “deliver educational programs that develop the skills and attributes children need for a successful start to school.”
To access Daisy’s First Day, please see here. For the full suite of transition resources, see here.
A copy of Daisy’s First Day will also be provided to all long day care, community and mobile preschools across New South Wales.
