Victoria allocates $100,000 for Children’s Week celebrations

The Victorian Government will provide $100,000 to local communities across the state to host “fun and free” educational activities and events (in line with COVID restrictions) during this year’s Children’s Week celebrations, to be held between 24 October to 1 November.
Thousands of children, aged up to 12 years, are expected to take part in Children’s Week, with grants supporting initiatives such as online art exhibitions, outdoor or messy play activities, dance workshops, arts and crafts, musical and story-telling performances, drawing competitions and picnics.
The theme for Children’s Week 2020 celebrates the right of all children to choose their own friends and safely connect with others, based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, with grant recipients creating innovative ways to safely share their events with their communities in line with the coronavirus restrictions in their areas, and with consideration of the ongoing bushfire recovery work in Victoria. Online activities will be held with cyber-safety in mind and in-person activities will adhere to COVID-Safe requirements.
Children’s Week is “a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the lives, talents and achievements of children”, Victorian Minister for Early Childhood Ingrid Stitt said.
