Quarter Century milestone for MercyCare ECEC employee
Christine Cohen recently reached a significant milestone as an employee of MercyCare Early Learning Centres, celebrating 26 years of service in 2020, having joined the provider in 1994 as an Administration Officer.
Ms Cohen initially joined MercyCare at its Wembley site, before going on to work at Heathridge, and is now based at Bedford. She joined MercyCare for “a change of pace” after working in accounting in her own business.
“I wanted a gentle environment and that’s really what Wembley was for me,” she said.
MercyCare was formed out of Wembley, where the original retirement village, residential aged care home, and early learning centre are all located.
As a part-time administration employee, Ms Cohen provides support to centre management, allowing educators to focus on the children while she “keeps operations ticking along”.
Her roles at the different centres reflect the growth in early learning services delivered by MercyCare, with her current position at Bedford seeing her operate as part of a close-knit team connected to a much wider community of 14 early learning centres as well as many other community services delivered across Western Australia.
One of the benefits of being based in the front office at the Bedford centre is that she “still gets to interact with the children and get to know the families” who are part of the MercyCare Bedford community.
“I like the business side of things, but I get to be surrounded by children,” Ms Cohen added.
