Minister announces funding for Mickleham and Glenroy hubs

The Victorian Government will provide $1.6 million for the Merrifield West Northern Community Hub and $4.7 million for the Wheatsheaf Hub Early Years centre as part of the 2018-19 Children’s Facilities Capital Program, Victorian Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos has announced.

Merrifield West Northern Community Hub will provide a range of services for local families, including three preschool rooms which will provide 198 kinder places at and five maternal and child health service consulting rooms. Additional funding will be provided by Hume City Council. Hume City is a growing urban fringe municipality, about 20 kilometres from Melbourne’s central business district.

Wheatsheaf Hub Early Years centre will provide 66 new places for four year old kinder, and 22 new places for three year old kinderm with the Moreland City Council will provide the additional $3.1 million of funding required. Moreland is located in the inner north of Melbourne, 5 kilometres from the central business district.

The hubs are two of more than 50 projects which will be funded through this capital funding round across Victoria, and furthers the announcement by Labor that, if re-elected, they will build 785 new kinders and upgrade 170 more, as part of the almost $5 billion three-year old kinder reform.

Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence described the announcement as a fantastic day for local families in Mickleham, whilst Member for Pascoe Vale, Lizzie Blandthorn said it was a great day for local families in Glenroy.
