The magic of books and the sharing of stories will keep us united
Stories, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) believes, are what keep us connected. It is for this reason that the Foundation have created a virtual book recommendation challenge – the #GreatStorySwap, where people from all walks of life, including the passionate and dedicated individuals in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector, share stories that they love.
“In these uncertain times, we believe that the magic and power of books and sharing stories is what will keep us united. With schools, organisations, and our Foundation unable to hold events, and a feeling of isolation impacting most people, we have created the #GreatStorySwap” an ILF spokesperson said.
An underlying point of difference between the ILF initiative and others like it is the importance of inclusivity, and ensuring that children in remote Australian communities have access to the basic tools for their education; books both in English and in their first language.
“We’re asking everyone – from students to parents, teachers to business owners – to show your support and contribute to something bigger by joining the #GreatStorySwap. Post a photo or video of your book recommendation to social media, tag our Foundation, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Use the power of reading to bring people together. Be a part of something bigger” ILF said.
