NAIDOC Local Grants round now open

The 2020 NAIDOC Local Grants round is now accepting applications from community groups and other organisations to run a host of activities to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements, and continuing contributions to our country and society during NAIDOC Week, to be celebrated 5 – 12 July 2020. 

In 2020, the NAIDOC Theme celebrates the theme “Always Was, Always Will Be”, and the Local Grants are available to support “ all sorts of activities, big and small” a spokesperson said. The majority of grants are for amounts of $500 to $1,000. 

Administered by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), the grants can be found online through Grant Connect along with information on eligibility and guidance on how to apply. 

Applications from Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations are welcome. Previous projects that have been funded include: arts based activities (e.g. painting, dancing and crafts), storytelling, family fun days, and sporting activities. 

With the 2020 National NAIDOC Week Awards hosted by Alice Springs (Mparntwe), the NAIDOC Week Local Grants also provide an opportunity for organisations in Central Australia, to extend the celebrations of NAIDOC Week in the community.
