Program opens up museum for children from regional areas
Sponsorship by Paessler AG has supported Museums Victoria, through the I want to go to the Museum and Science Morning Teas programs, to open up both Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks to over 300 children across the state, a spokesperson from Museums Victoria has said.
Thanks to the sponsorship, 294 children under the age of five have been able to access the facilities, including playgroups from various community organisations including Yarra City Council in Collingwood, Richmond and Fitzroy, Migrant Information Centre, and Brotherhood of St Lawrence who were all provided access to the museum.
The ‘I want to go to the Museum‘ program reaches out to children, schools and young families who, due to disadvantage or distance, have not visited one of the museums. Through the sponsorship, the program has been able to expand to support greater visitation across metro, outer metro (e.g. Ballarat and Geelong) and regional communities and deliver stronger impact with community groups who, for various reasons, would not have been able to attend the museums by themselves.
Lynley Marshall, CEO of Museums Victoria, said the program is “a wonderful initiative and one that we are very proud to be presenting with Paessler. Our museums are places full of wondrous discovery, which help us to make sense of the world. With this partnership, we want to give as many children as possible the opportunity to be inspired by and to engage with science and technology,”
Inside the Museum, is “an abundance of knowledge” that every child should have the opportunity to explore, George Wilson, Director of Operations APAC at Paessler said.
