Concept designs show dedicated space for early learning at Gillieston Public School
Early concept designs for the redevelopment of Gillieston Public School, in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, show strong provisions for early childhood education and care (ECEC) with both a new Out of School Hours (OOSH) care facility and a co-located public preschool.
The full redevelopment will also include new classrooms, a new support learning hub, new staff and administration facilities, a new library, school hall, a new canteen, a new bus stop and kiss & drop facilities.
The school’s design will evolve through consultation with the community as the project progresses.Gillieston Public Preschool will be a distinct space next door to the primary school with its own entry, and secure outdoor area with play equipment.
“It is exciting to see designs for Gillieston Public School’s full redevelopment,” Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said.
“Maitland locals have long been campaigning for improvements for their school, and I am pleased the Minns Labor Government is making progress on this long overdue project.”
Gillieston Public School Principal Lauren Fernando said the school community has been thrilled by the opportunity to ‘get a preview’ of its future.
“The concept design gives us a clear indication of the modern facilities that will enhance our students’ learning experiences and school community,” she said.
“This is a key milestone and reflects the collaborative and thoughtful planning of everyone involved. We’re eager to see more updates as the project moves forward.”
