ECEC Provider in Focus: Youth Leadership Victoria

Youth Leadership Victoria (YLV) is a community and child focused, not for profit, Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) and Vacation Care provider that runs across 33 schools in Victoria.

What is the history of Youth Leadership Victoria? 

The first YLV OSHC service opened in October 2000. Many YLV educators have remained working within the organisation since the early 2000’s. 

What is the YLV vision and approach to learning? 

YLV follows the My Time Our Place approved learning framework, and aims to extend and enrich children’s learning through their time with the service. 

Each YLV service is committed to providing a developmental and educational program which caters for each child’s individual needs, abilities and interests. The program will continue to develop as YLV uses the relationships children have with their families and communities, working in partnership with parents, to ensure each child’s knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation for its program offerings 

Children are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning through choices in experiences, interests and routine. The provider uses conversations, actions and play as the basis for teaching which involves the children being partners in teaching by seeking out ideas, opinions, thoughts and questions. 

Children’s learning is further encouraged through the promotion of their independence and self-help skills by assisting within the routine and involving the children in interest based projects to further enhance their learning and knowledge. 

Play based learning and responsive educators round out the learning approach with YLV.
