Applications now open for Early Childhood Careers Expo

Applications are now open for stallholders to be a part of the inaugural Early Childhood Careers Expo, a new initiative of Baw Baw Shire Council to generate interest in early childhood education and care (ECEC) careers.

To be held on Thursday 30 May at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, the expo is now inviting expressions of interest from any local businesses or organisations that deliver early childhood careers, training or pathways to be present at the expo, at no charge.

“We are bringing this new event to Baw Baw to shine a light on the opportunities available to our residents, while also boosting a sector that is really crying out for some more staff and leaders,” Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said.

The Mayor believes the Expo “will  provide the ideal opportunity for anyone who has ever contemplated a career in early years to find out more about this career path and determine if it is right for them.”

Stallholders will have the opportunity to “spread the word” about their organisation or service, and to hopefully generate interest in their offering.

Some of the career paths to be presented include working as a maternal and child health nurse, family day care educator, early childhood educator, or an early childhood teacher.

Cr McCabe said she is excited for Council to bring this new event to town and showcase the variety of careers available in early years.

“The early years sector looks after our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents, and it’s important that with all of the new families moving to the area and the infrastructure popping up, that we have the right people caring for our young ones,” she said.

“Perfect for secondary school students, someone considering a new career opportunity, or someone looking for flexible work right from their own home, the early years sector has so much variety and flexibility, while also being a rewarding career.”

As well as stallholders, the event will include play spaces for children and lessons in cover letter writing and resume writing.
