Strathfield event helps to strengthen ties between TAFE Digital and local employers
The TAFE Digital Health, Wellbeing and Community Services Sectors Industry Night was held recently at Strathfield Golf Club, attracting almost 100 attendees, spanning a host of sectors and industries, many of which are currently impacted by skills shortages.
Employers and industry representatives were joined by TAFE Digital staff, students and graduates in a bid to take the pulse of industry, create networking opportunities and outline how the support and flexibility of TAFE Digital could help create a pipeline of new workers following an increase in enrolments for in-demand sectors.
The event hosted a range of businesses – from sole operators to larger corporates – representing a number of sectors, including allied health, community services, early childhood education and care (ECEC), and audiometry. It also showcased the many lesser known student support services offered by TAFE Digital, including counselling, disability, Aboriginal, and multicultural support.
For Pennant Hills Preschool Educational Leader Christine Reynolds, a long-standing member of the ECEC community, the event was an opportunity to see how the digital classroom works and see the spectrum of services that TAFE Digital offers.
Ms Reynolds, at 78 years of age, has seen a number of significant changes in the way in which professional development and qualifications are delivered in the sector during her lifetime.
“It was a hugely valuable event and gave us an even deeper understanding of the unique challenges facing the many sectors and industries we service,” said Executive Director TAFE Digital Lyn Rickard.
As well as gaining a deeper understanding of the needs of employers, the evening gave Ms Rickard and others in attendance the opportunity to see where the evolving training gaps might be.
Feedback from the evening has been overwhelmingly positive, and TAFE Digital is already planning similar events in future.
