Educators Amy (R) and Kirsty (L) from the Benevolent Society’s Beaudesert Early Years Centre recently shared their experiences of working in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector.

Each educator shared that they enjoy the role they play in supporting children’s education.

“As an educator, I am able to advocate and promote the education, care, and rights of children,” Amy said. “In addition to giving children the opportunity to explore and make sense of the world, I ensure that they feel comfortable and secure in their learning environment.”

“I feel it is our responsibility to equip them with the tools they need to be effective and engaged students throughout their school years and beyond,” she said.

For Kirsty, working in ECEC means supporting children to help them learn, develop and grow.

“It gives me a sense of belonging,” she said. “I enjoy building relationships with children and their families and nurturing those relationships to build positive outcomes for their children.”

Being an early childhood teacher is a vocation they both find fulfilling.

“The uniqueness of each child makes this job very rewarding,” Amy shared. “I enjoy watching the difference we can make in a child’s life, witnessing their growth in learning and development.”

“In addition, it’s really rewarding to witness the excitement on their faces when they understand something or try anything for the first time. “

“Everything is so fascinating to kindergarteners, and we have the opportunity of experiencing it all over again through their eyes.”

It’s also a career that’s ever-changing. “It’s wonderful to see the way in which early childhood education has changed over the years; there is so much advocacy and research happening around the early years and its importance,” Kirsty added. “I am constantly learning and evolving.”
