Cohuna and Leitchville residents invited to have their say on the future of ECEC

Residents of Cohuna and Leitchville in Victoria have been encouraged to help shape the future of early childhood education and care (ECEC) options in Cohuna by completing one of two surveys by 5pm Tuesday, 25 October.
Gannawarra Shire Council is working with an experienced Early Childhood Consultant to investigate future childcare and kindergarten options for Cohuna, following on from a community-led campaign to create long day care options for the town.
“Council continues to work proactively with residents who led this community campaign during 2021 and the State Government to find a solution that would be beneficial to the community and families accessing early years services,” said Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson.
“This project progressed thanks to $65,800 from the State Government’s 2021/22 Building Blocks Planning Program, which is enabling Council to explore future kindergarten service delivery and models of care for Cohuna, as well as the potential to also provide long day care in the town,” Mr Rollinson added.
Two surveys are available to complete online – one that seeks residents’ views and one that caters for businesses, service providers, schools and community groups who operate or service Cohuna and district.
Future engagement with major businesses and families will also be explored.
“All responses received will assist with developing recommendations for the future of childcare and kindergarten in Cohuna, which benefits residents throughout Cohuna and Leitchville,” Mr Rollinson said in closing.
