Shire of Ashburton makes progress on gym and childcare facilities
Funding to extend the Onslow gym and childcare facilities in Onslow, a coastal town in the remote West Australian Pilbara region has been approved, with $2.5 million allocated to the project.
The Onslow Gym and Childcare project involves relocating the existing gym to extend the facilities and services offered by the One Tree childcare centre, which provides a small family environment where children can spend time with siblings and peers in the 19 place service which offers care for children from birth – six years of age.
Capital works projects such as this were identified as a core priority for the Shire of Ashburton in its 2020/21 Budget, with 81 projects due for completion by the end of next year. A number of the projects are significant community and infrastructure projects across all four towns of the Shire, which will deliver essential services to the district.
“We recognise the demand for childcare across all towns in our Shire and are satisfied by extending the current facility there will be the capacity to cater for additional places within the centre,” Shire President Kerry White said.
“The Shire of Ashburton is committed to creating vibrant and active communities that have access to a range of quality services including childcare, healthcare and youth services as well as providing a range of sustainable services and facilities for the community.”
Tender submissions are now being accepted from suitably registered, qualified and experienced contractors for the construction of the new gymnasium and upgrades to the existing childcare facility, with further details available on the website, here, with tenders closing at 2pm (WST) on 22 September 2020.
