City of Monash lines up Brine St ECEC service for exciting upgrade

The Brine Street Early Childhood Education and Care Centre in the Victorian suburb of Hughesdale is undergoing an upgrade to expand on-site parking, improve staff facilities and create space for a dedicated children’s library, the City of Monash recently announced.

The centre provides an education and care program for up to 67 children per day delivered by up to 19 Council staff. Seventeen of these children participate in a Federal Government funded four-year-old kindergarten program.

The project will include creating a new staff area to serve a dual purpose as a quiet space for staff breaks and with a number of desks to be used for program planning.

The current staff room will be refurbished to be used as a children’s library to encourage children, and their families, to borrow books and help grow children’s experience of reading and learning.

City of Monash Mayor Stuart James said the Council was pleased to be updating facilities for the many families and children who use the Centre, noting that the centre is “highly valued by Monash families”.

“We’re pleased to be investing in this Centre for the future and providing children and their families. Reading is one of the best things people can do with children and we’re delighted to be expanding that opportunity,” he added.

Work on the upgrade will start in March 2020 and are expected to be completed by June 2020.
