Recognising the outstanding work being done by education and care professionals based in the Northern Territory is a priority for the Northern Territory Government, who have joined with Child Australia in calling for nominations to honour exceptional early childhood professionals through the 2019 Northern Territory Education and Care Awards.

Nominations close tomorrow, 24 July 2019.

Child Australia CEO Tina Holtom said the awards are an important way to recognise the outstanding work being done in the education and care sector in the Territory, adding “Birth to five years is such a crucial development window, which is why it is important to recognise those working directly with our children – the educators, working hard to give Territory children a brighter future.”

“We underestimate the incredible impact that these professionals have on our children and it is critically important that we acknowledge and celebrate their wonderful commitment to children within their care.”

Parents, family members and colleagues are able to nominate those educators who they feel deserve recognition, and educators are also able to self nominate, placing themselves in the running for the $3,000 prize, to be placed towards professional learning objectives.

Nominations are open for the following categories:

  • Outstanding emerging educator

  • Outstanding educator

  • Outstanding leadership

  • Outstanding achievement in community engagement

  • Outstanding achievement in innovative practice.

A wide range of early childhood professionals and programs are eligible to apply,  including those working in long day care and outside of school hours care, to preschool and kindergarten teachers, to playgroups, rural and remote early childhood services, and programs such as the Families as First Teachers.

The awards, Ms Holtom said, are “an opportunity to show your support for the Educators and their teams that go above and beyond for our children. It is a truly wonderful recognition of their dedication to supporting children and their families.”

The Awards will be presented on Friday 18 October 2019 at Parliament House, Darwin.

The 2019 Northern Territory Education and Care Awards will be held in conjunction with the ‘Little People Big Dreams’ Children’s Learning and Development Conference on 19 October 2019.
