Special event held by Darwin City Council in honour of Harmony Day

The City of Darwin held a special event yesterday, Thursday 20 March 2025, in honour of Harmony Day.
Held as part of the popular Fun Bus program, the celebration at the Malak Community Centre was part of Harmony Week which celebrates diversity, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, and was “a great opportunity to celebrate Darwin’s multiculturalism,” Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said.
“We are very proud that people from more than 60 nationalities and 70 different ethnic backgrounds call Darwin home, making us one of the most multicultural cities in Australia,” he shared.
“The Harmony Day event at the Fun Bus was a great chance to come together and celebrate people from all different backgrounds and cultures.”
Attendees enjoyed a range of fun activities including flower weaving, an African drumming workshop, a didgeridoo performance, arts and craft activities and a special performance from the Baby Ballerinas, wearing either orange or traditional clothing as they immersed themselves in a day of cultural festivities.
Harmony Week runs from 15 to 21 March every year and encourages everyone to experience, explore and appreciate cultural, religious and linguistic diversity.
The Fun Bus event was made possible with support from Early Childhood Australia and Territory Child Care Group Inc.
City of Darwin’s Fun Bus is a mobile playgroup that provides a free, fun and informal space for parents, carers, babies and children aged birth to five years to connect in a relaxed, friendly environment, and operates weekdays between 9:30 am and 11:30 am at different locations throughout the municipality of Darwin.
