Equity Fund applications open for 2026: Support for ACT children from preschool through to Year 12

The ACT Government has opened applications for the 2026 round of the Future of Education Equity Fund, offering a one‑off payment to eligible low‑income families to help cover schooling costs for children from preschool through Year 12 and reinforcing efforts to make education accessible to all students, regardless of economic circumstances.

Families whose applications are approved can receive:

  • $400 for preschool students (eligible preschools are those attached to an ACT public school)
  • $500 for primary‑school students
  • $750 for high‑school and college students

Funds can be used to assist with the cost of essential schooling expenses, including uniforms, book packs, excursions, sporting equipment and activities, music lessons, tuition, and other fees, easing cost-of-living pressures and supporting student participation in a full range of school activities.

Importantly, there is no limit on the number of eligible children per household who can be claimed under the Fund, provided all meet the eligibility criteria.

The 2026 application round opened 1 December 2025 with the closing date 27 November 2026.

Families must meet eligibility criteria including residency in the ACT, parental (or independent student) financial responsibility, and evidence of low income (e.g. a current means‑tested health or concession card listing the child, or other documentation of financial hardship).

As cost-of-living pressures rise, the Fund provides tangible support to families who might otherwise struggle to meet the upfront costs of schooling from uniforms and shoes, to excursions, music lessons, and extra‑curricular activities that contribute to well‑rounded development. The Fund helps uphold equity in education access, ensuring financial circumstances do not limit participation.

The reopening of the Future of Education Equity Fund for 2026 provides an avenue for eligible families in the ACT to access financial support for education-related expenses. For families experiencing financial pressure, the Fund may assist with costs associated with preschool through to Year 12.

Clear communication and coordination across the sector can help ensure eligible families are aware of the Fund and understand how to apply, supporting equitable access to education-related opportunities.
