Through my eyes: A little thank you on Early Childhood Educators’ Day

by Fiona Alston

September 03, 2025

Hello, I’m one of your little learners. I’m three years old, and today I want to say something very important.

Thank you.

When I come to kindy every morning, I see you waiting for me with a smile. Sometimes I feel shy, sometimes I’m excited, sometimes I’m a little sad, but you always notice. You know how to help me feel safe. You kneel down to my level, look me in the eyes, and remind me that I belong here.

You are my teacher, my helper, my friend. You show me how to share, how to climb, how to hold a pencil, how to use my words when I’m upset. You sing songs with me, you read me stories (sometimes the same one, over and over!), and you cheer when I try something new. You see things I don’t even notice, like how I’m learning to pour water, or how my drawings are getting better each week.

But it’s not just you.

There’s the person who makes our food. I may not always say thank you, but I see how hard you work to make sure I have warm meals, crunchy fruit, and snacks that give me energy to play. When I smell lunch cooking, I feel happy and safe, because I know someone is caring for me.

There’s the person at the desk who helps my mum and dad and makes sure everything runs smoothly, so my day feels calm and organised, even if I don’t really understand all the big things you’re doing.

There is the Educational Leader, who helps all my teachers learn new things, who guides them when they need ideas, and who makes sure the activities we do help us to grow.

There is the Centre Manager, who looks after everyone and everything children, families, and staff. You make sure my teachers have what they need, that they keep learning too, and that our centre is a safe and happy place.

And there are the educators who read with me, paint with me, and help me when I’m still learning to use the toilet. The ones who wipe my tears when I fall, who celebrate when I build the tallest tower, and who laugh with me when I make silly jokes.

I see you all.

And even though I can’t always say the words properly, I feel the love, care, and patience you give me every single day. You make me feel important. You make me feel like I can try, learn, and grow.

Everything you do helps me get ready for the real world, the big journey ahead of me. You are showing me how to be kind, how to be strong, how to be curious, and how to keep learning every day.

So today, on Educators’ Day, I just want to say: thank you for seeing me, for teaching me, for feeding me, for keeping me safe, for leading my teachers, for caring for my family, and for making this my place to belong.

Because of you, I am learning who I am. And because of you, I am getting ready for what comes next.

With love, one of your little learners.
