Bravehearts partners with Care for Kids to better understand parent perspectives on child safety

Bravehearts, Australia’s leading child protection advocacy organisation, has partnered with Care for Kids to better understand how parents and carers engage with child safety education and conversations.
The collaboration aims to generate new insights into how confident and informed families feel when it comes to recognising harm, initiating protective conversations and accessing resources to support children’s safety and wellbeing.
As part of the partnership, Care for Kids has shared a national survey with its parent network. The survey explores key questions around:
- parental awareness of child safety issues,
- confidence in having age-appropriate safety conversations with children, and
- access to child safety education and support.
Bravehearts is now inviting broader community participation, with a goal to secure 1,000 survey responses to create a representative sample for advocacy and program development.
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) professionals and approved providers are encouraged to share the Bravehearts Parent Survey with families, community groups and parent networks to amplify reach and engagement.
Access the survey here: Bravehearts Parent Survey
Survey closes Sunday 31 August, 2025
Promoting the survey aligns with National Quality Standard (NQS) elements relating to child protection, family engagement and community partnerships. It also supports the broader sector’s commitment to keeping children safe through education, awareness and advocacy.
This initiative comes in the lead-up to Bravehearts Day, taking place on Friday 12 September 2025. The national day of action raises awareness of child sexual abuse and celebrates the work being done to protect children across Australia.
ECEC services are invited to:
- participate in Bravehearts Day activities,
- host a fundraiser or awareness event, or
- use the day as an opportunity to refresh child protection policies and family engagement strategies.
More information, resources and promotional materials are available here.
Bravehearts encourages all educators, centre managers and sector professionals to:
- complete the survey if they are parents or carers,
- share the link across their communities, and
- engage with Bravehearts Day 2025 to continue building a culture of prevention and safety.
Sharing this survey may help support families to have open, informed conversations about safety and contribute to a broader understanding of how parents engage with child protection education.
